DARLENE D. MACK
Darlene D. Mack has experience as a Title I teacher, classroom teacher, assistant principal, and principal of elementary and secondary levels in the Central Virginia Public Schools.

When she arrived as principal of Madison Heights Elementary School in Amherst, Virginia, student achievement and parental involvement were extremely low and the school had not ever achieved Accreditation status or met A.Y.P. targets.

By placing a strong emphasis on literacy, data analysis, intervention strategies, and community support, the school quickly rose from among the lowest in the school division to one of the highest performing schools in the state. After one year under Mrs. Mack’s leadership, the school received “Full Accreditation” and met A.Y.P. targets.

Madison Heights Elementary received a high honor by being selected as a “Distinguished Title I School” by the Virginia Department of Education for two consecutive years. Mrs. Mack credits the school’s remarkable success to a dedicated faculty and staff and an effective family literacy program.

Mrs. Mack pioneered the partnership of Sylvan Learning Center’s “Ace It” Program to Central Virginia Public Schools and numerous other business partnerships with the school to increase parental involvement and family literacy. As a change catalyst and leading educational consultant, she has been selected to present at numerous state and national conferences. Significant among these were the National Reading First Conference where she was selected by the United States Department of Education to represent her state by sharing strategies which helped turn around Madison Heights Elementary School. Mrs. Mack was also selected by the Virginia Department of Education to lead a presentation on “Successful Schools” for the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals. She continues to conduct professional development training locally and nationwide in the areas of reading and school improvement.

During her career, she has been recognized by a variety of professional organizations, state and federal agencies and civic and social groups. Recently, the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals recognized her with the “School Bell Award” for her contributions and significant achievements in the field of education.

Darlene Mack continues to serve professional groups and organizations and travels to share and assist teachers, principals, schools, and other organizations in improving educational opportunities for all children.

Mrs. Mack is an active member of National Educational Association, Virginia Education Association, Association for Curriculum and Instruction, Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals, National Association of Elementary School Principals, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
